From such a kit, it is possible to grow up to 10 kg of oyster mushrooms in several batches.

Package contents:

  • 10 kg straw pellet mixture with lime
  • 2 kg mushroom mycelium (grey, pink or yellow oyster mushrooms – grey ones are the easiest to grow)
  • 5 heat-resistant mushroom growing bags with filter

Preparatory work:

  • Preparation of straw pellets:

    • Pack the straw pellets into five bags, each bag weighing approximately 2.5 kg.
    • Pour 5 liters of boiling water over each bag.
    • The pellets will triple or quadruple their size.
    • Seal the bags with glue, tape, pegs, or paper clips to keep them tightly closed.
    • Wrap the bags with a blanket or other heat-insulating material to retain heat longer.
    • Let the bags cool for 24 hours.
  • Adding mycelium:

    • The next day, when the bags have cooled, open them.
    • Using clean hands or gloves, add mycelium to each bag.
    • Close the bags and mix the mycelium with the substrate thoroughly by shaking the bag.
  • Incubation period:

    • Place the bags in a place where the temperature is 21-25°C.
    • Keep the bags in these conditions for 2-4 weeks until the mycelium has completely taken over the substrate.

Cultivation:

  • Indoor cultivation:

    • Once the mycelium has completely taken over the substrate, make small incisions in the bags.
    • Ensure a high level of humidity in the room and a regular supply of fresh air.
    • To provide even more humidity, you can place the bag in a bowl filled with water.
  • Outdoor cultivation:

    • Place the bags in a shady and humid place.
    • Protect mushrooms from snails by placing the bags in bowls of water (snails cannot swim).
    • Mushroom harvest time may differ from indoor cultivation.

Harvesting:

  • Harvest the mushrooms when they are large enough.
  • Mushrooms can be harvested several times from one bag.

Tips:

  • To prevent mold growth, ensure good ventilation.
  • If you notice mold, remove the infected substrate.
  • Cook mushrooms as soon as possible after harvesting.
  • It's a good idea not to grow all five bags at once, but to spread them out so you don't end up with too many mushrooms unexpectedly.

Important:

  • When preparing the substrate, follow safety precautions when working with boiling water.
  • Store the mycelium in a cool, dark place.
  • Additionally, you can mix bran into one of the bags before pouring, which will increase the mushroom yield.
  • Adding bran increases the risk that other molds will take advantage of the substrate, so try adding bran to just one/two bags the first time to see how well it works for you. c
  • Bran should not be put more than 200-300 g per bag.
